仓前古镇原名灵源，南宋绍兴二年(1132)年官方在街北建临安便民仓，古以南为前，遂称仓前街，距今已有873年历史，虽隶属关系和建置几经变迁，但仓前之名一直沿用。全镇行政区域面积52平方公里，辖10个建制村，1个社区，人口3.24万人。

　　仓前镇地处杭州西北近郊，距市区中心15公里。杭州市文一路延伸段贯穿全镇，境内祥仓、余仓、良仓、上仓等公路以及东西大道纵横交错，分别贯通104国道和02省道，交通十分便捷。余杭塘河横穿全境，并建有钱神等多个码头；宣杭铁路在仓前设有货运站，铁路运输繁忙。这些得天独厚的便利条件，使仓前镇成为一个公路、铁路、水路相辅相成的物资集散地。

　　仓前镇历史悠久，文化积淀丰厚，是著名国学大师章太炎的故乡。清水丝棉明清时期就闻名遐迩，早竹笋因肉厚质嫩昧鲜而弛名省内外，龙泉寺小白蚕豆因特具的美昧曾被列为贡品；镇中有历史上著名的南宋临安仓遗址； 镇南白虎山有新石器时代的遗存：国学大师章太炎先生故居和涉及杨乃武一案的钱爱仁堂药店都在集镇老街。

　　近年来，仓前镇党委、政府按照建设大都市新镇目标，全力推进“实力仓前、文化仓前、秀美仓前、平安仓前”建设，全镇综合实力不断增强，工业经济稳步发展，农业产业结构调整步伐明显加快，城镇面貌日新月异，社会各项事业全面发展，精神文明建设硕果累累。

The ancient Cangqian town was formerly name d Lingyuan．In the second year of Shaoxing period(1132)of SouthSong Dynasty，the imperial authority built the warehouses for the people in Linan to the nodh of the street．The south wasreferred to as the front，so the street is called“Font Street”of Cangqian that dates back to 873 years ago．The name of“Cangqian”has passed on in spite of all the changes in jurisdictional relation and the administrative systems．The wholetown covers an administrative area of 52 km。and governs 1 0 administrative villages and 1 community with a population of 32，400
